Defense Ministry wants national software used on Russians’ phones

NOVOSIBIRSK, Apr 27 (PRIME) – All software installed by Russians on their smartphones and computers should be of the national make, Nikolai Lishin, deputy head of the Defense Ministry’s information systems department, said on Wednesday at a conference.

“If the data processing centers, the router, and the so-called hardware infrastructure are critical infrastructure and are secured by all the services…software, it seems to me has been somehow left aside from the sector of critical defense propositions,” Lishin said.

He suggested introducing the notion of critical software infrastructure, which will comprise not only the programs used by state institutions, but also by the people on their phones, smartphones, and computers, starting with fitness programs to the stores, with which many share their personal data to biometry.
